As a Field geologist you might spend a lot of time outside supervising a drill rig and looking at rock samples drilled out of the ground.

Depending on your project, you may be travelling a lot for work ie. flying to exploration sites. You may find work where you receive a flight to anywhere in the country or in the world to spend your break / vacation.

The pay is extremely good.

You generally don't pay for anything while working on a remote site (food, accomodation, vehicle expenses etc.)

You can usually find short term contract work if you don't want any long term commitments.

At any given moment there is likely to be demand for a geologist for some type of resource some where in the world. Chasing the work will lead you to travel the world.
