Not having a thermostat fitted will result in the engine running much cooler, usually accompanied by a loss of efficiency and performance as the engine won't be able to reach its optimum running temperature.
Follow the radiator hoses one leads to the water pump the other leads to the thermostat housing. The thermostat housing hold the thermostat all you do is unbolt it romove old thermostat and replace with new one.
Drain the water from your radiator. Remove the radiator hose, from the thermostat housing. Remove the thermostat housing retaining bolts. Replace the thermostat housing gasket and reverse the process to install the new thermostat.
