It can be a little expensive to replace the EGR valve on the 1987 Volvo 240 DL. The job takes about 1 to 3 hours and can cost as much as about 240 dollars.
An engine valve normally needs to be removed from the head for a valve job, or to replace other parts related to its operation like the spring or valve guide. This is normally done when the engine has a poor seal from the valve/valve seat or oil consumption caused by the vavle guide.
do it. how will you get any money if you dont. though try not to get a too stressful job because it could overwork the new heart valve.
A valve job is where they turn or resurface the valves in your cylinder head to promote sealing. The head(s) have to come off & they grind the seats as well. The cam opens/closes the valves to let in fuel/let out exhaust.

Depends on what quality paint job you want. Can be $3,000 and up.
No, you do not have to remove the engine to do a valve job.
It should be located on the driver side valve cover, towards the back. To remove it, grasp it firm and wiggle it out, be careful not to dislodge the rubber grommet because it is quite a job to get a new one to fit.
That is usually considered a partial valve job and most garages want just do head gaskets without shaving the heads at least and that means removing the heads from the motor(partial valve job). The last valve jog I had done on Ford engine 351 Windsor was about ten year ago and it was $600.00 then, the price know I couldn't tell you. I hope this give you some idealof the cost.
If you do the job yourself, for both heads and a valve job, gaskets and all, somewhere around $ 600.00. If you send it to a garage, not really worth it. Hopefully you have a friend who can do the job.

Do a valve job. This is more complicated than it sounds, you might be better off sending the head to your local machine shop for the valve job.
Do a compression test to determine if a valve job is needed. Burnt valve(s) or carbon buildup on the valve seats will cause the symptoms you describe.
