Wrenches come two ways, open ended and box end. Open end are just a U shape on the end. Box end go around the nut or bolt. If you were to slice a quarter inch off of a socket that is what the end of the wrench would look like.

That depends on what type of bolt it is. Some use an Allen wrench while others have a bolt head (ie,1/2 inch or 13mm ect...) The best thing to use on a bolt head is a box end wrench, the rule of thumb is, left to take off. right to tighten. Keep in mind that you are looking at it backwards, so looking at the caliper it would be right to take off and left to put it on. Take the wrench and make sure it is on the bolt head, have the wrench straight up then take the palm of your hand and hit the wrech to your right a little at a time so you don't bust up your hands. The same will go for the Allen wrench.
Yes, you can use a torque wrench in both directions.

A box wrench has that feature.
A box end wrench goes all the way around the nut, like a slice of a socket. An open end wrench grips just on two sides.
A box end wrench is used to undo or tighten nuts when a lot of torque is required. When working under my car on exposed nuts and bolts, a box wrench will remove nuts that an open end wrench will 'round'.
A spanner is another word for box-end wrench. So, a 14 spanner would be a metric size 14 box-end wrench.
