When my coil was on its last legs it would cause the car to stutter and run badly when it was raining or damp out. Sometimes the car wouldn't start at all.
There is a simple test you can do on your coil:
All you need is a spray bottle that can spray a fine mist.

Start the car, raise the hood and spray water on the coil.
One or two squirts is enough.
If your coil is bad you'll see some sparks.
Replace the coil.

You can do the same test on spark plug wires. If they arc, replace them as well.

Best to do this in the shade or in the evening.
