you need to give more info!!..example what are you going to do with the 460?..race it?..pull a boat?..ton truck??
Fuel pump is in fuel tank,no easy way other than dropping the fuel tank, make sure you replace the fuel filter
No. The higher HP Cummins require a different ECM. The increased HP engine was programed differently and was usually a *Celect Plus* . Also be aware that the ECM plug has a different wiring cofiguration and will not simply plug inton your OEM wiring harness.
Typically, failur to idle down on computer controlled engine is an indication that the computer doesn't know the engine has warmed up. I would start by checking the temperature sensor on the block. On the 460 it's near the top radiator hone on the intake. Note that for some years, there are 2 sensors, the other is for the dash guage. Starting problems when warmed up are also typical for a failed temp sensor, the computer is setting the fuel mixture rich because it thinks the engine is cold, the engine won't start well with rich fuel when it's already warm. After that..look for vacuum leaks..
I'm having the same problem with a 1987 ford E350 with a 460 auto trans. I just replaced the engine with a used one from a 1988 ford F250 with a 460 4wd auto trans. and now the starter won't release from the flywheel and it is making a bad grinding sound. I searched around on the net a little bit and it looks like all the 460 from 84-91 list the same part numbers for the starter, and flywheel. my old starter had some movement in the shaft and sounded like it was grinding a little so, I replaced the it with a new one from Auto Zone. And it still dose the same thing. There is no adjustments to be made with a ford starter like a GM starer. It should just bolt right up and that's it. So now I'm not sure what to do. I don't work on fords that much so if you have any ideas please let me know.
how can i delete a egr vavle on 1997 ford f350 with electronic fuel injection, its a7.5 gas 460

A 1996 Ford F-250 , 460 cubic inch ( 7.5 liter ) V8 engine is FUEL INJECTED
A 650 to 700 cfm 4 barrel
I have a 460 in my 1983 e350.
Check the related link, I found a picture of the diagram posted on the inside of the engine compartment. Your next best bet would be a Haynes or Chiltons manual.
To change a 460 Ford engine and make it displace 351 cubes, you would have to remove the 3.85" stroke crank, and install a crank with a 2.94" stroke. I do not know how to change the year on the engine.
the absolute most cfm an engine in your size ,on the road is 585-650 cfm max, anymore is just ego
Ford used a 4180 Holley 4v carburetor built for Motorcraft. Rated at about 600cfm. That may seem small but stock 460's are seldom ran past 5000 rpm
If your 1986 Ford E - 350 ( 7.5 L / 460 cubic inch V8 engine ) has a carburetor it will use a mechanical fuel pump
Look in your engine compartment for the VECI sticker ( Vehicle Emission Control Information ) on the fan shroud or in front of the radiator. Or , the 8th " character " of your VIN indicates which engine you have On the 1985 F series: " F " is the 5.0 L ( 302 cubic inch ) V8 with 2 barrel carburetor " N " is the 5.0 L ( 302 cubic inch ) V8 with fuel injection ( EFI ) " G " is the 5.8 L ( 351 cubic inch ) V8 with 2 barrel carburetor " H " would be a 5.8 L ( 351 C I ) V8 with 4 barrel carburetor ( Available in F150 ? ) " L " would be a 7.5 L ( 460 C I ) V8 with 4 barrel carburetor ( Available in F150 ? )
Yes, this is a common swap as it is a much larger engine than the 351 V8 that came in Broncos, especially since the front of a Bronco is identical to the front of the F-series trucks the 460 came in. A donor truck with a 460 in it should have everything needed for a swap. If not, several sites sell 460 conversion kits.
The 2013 Lexus LS-460 has a V8 engine.
