The mountain, which is part of the Himilaya range in Asia, is located on the border between Sagarmatha Zone, Nepal, and Tibet, China. Mount Everest is the highest point on Earth as measured from Sea Level, but... Mount Chimborazo in Ecuador is the point on earth closest to the moon and outer space. This is because the Earth is not perfectly round, it is bulging slightly at the equator. Mount Chimborazo, in the Andes, is a 20,000-plus-foot peak sitting on top of a bulge on the Earth. Mount Everest is a 29,000-plus-foot peak sitting lower down on that same bulge. Because Chimborazo is a bump on a bigger part of the bulge, it is higher. Probably one we don't know about. It would be an amazing coincidence if the highest peak in the universe happened to be in our Solar System, and the planets in our own Solar System are the only ones close enough for us to have done any sort of mapping to see how high their mountains are.

However, of the planets in the Solar System, the highest peak is on Mars: Olympus Mons, an extinct volcano that rises nearly 14 miles above the surrounding plains.

In contrast, the highest peak on Earth (using the same criterion) is Mauna Kea, which has a peak only about 7 miles above its base. (Everest has a higher absolute elevation than Mauna Kea, but its base is well over 2 miles above sea level, while the base of Mauna Kea is nearly 4 miles below sea level). Mauna Kea is a good comparison to Olympus Mons for another reason: they're both shield volcanoes.
