Types of bulbs are not being discontinued; bulbs which do not meet energy efficient standards will. Therefore, since companies chose to not increase their products efficiency, they will no longer be able to sell them. I believe this is true of GE. Like other companies, they expected their allies in government to continue stopping the regulations from taking effect, much like MPG rules have been doing for decades in the auto industry. My opinion: History will repeat itself. Congress will come to the aid of corporations and either delay, or stop the new rules.
