Engine is out of time or the plug wires are installed incorrectly.
If your car makes a clicking sound when you try to start it, try to jump the battery. If that starts it, check the electrical system and if it was the battery, replace the battery. If jumping it does not fix it, have a mechanic look at it.
The timing of the engine is off or the spark plug wires have been hooked up incorrectly.
I want to elaborate this hole is below the crank, the crank chamber does not hold pressure and does not hold oil. so can i put a weld patch over it and call it done?well if there is a hole in it can it really hurt to try it?
there is somthing blocking the magnito or its broken (the magneto)
Most likely a bad starter drive Could be a chipped tooth and ring gear Try rotating the engine with a large socket on the crankshaft (Make sure it is in neutral if std.) If it does not make this noise after turning engine manually probably a chipped tooth

Incomplete combustion
Its either too much fuel coming from the carbeuator and causing it to backfire or it could be spark plugs wired wrong. try to be more specific on where backfire is coming from. either out of the carbeuator or the tailpipes.
bad compression
I'm assuming since you say backfire it's carbed, so I'll also assume it's not computer controlled and has a standard hei or points distibutor. Hard starting and back firing are probably caused by over advanced timing. Try rotating the distributor.
Like if you and your girlfriend or boyfriend break up then they going to try to find somebody like your friend and try to backfire you and say now look who I got she's prettier he handsome than you and then that's not going to be right cuz it's going to be really rude and stuff so that's a definition of backfire.
try some dry gas
Usually, the RPM guage wont jump when u try to crank it.
