I worked for a tattoo studio for a year and I can't say we ever worned folks what NOT to do. I guess, don't take it out would be one. Use an antibiotic oinment for the first 3 days to keep from infection. DO NOT use after that because it actually inhibits healing. After the 3 days please use basic soapy water. The best way to clean it is to gently push your ring (or bar bell) back and forth through the piercing. This will remove build up associated with the healing process. If you notice that your piercing turns pink or red another round of antibiotic ointment may be needed. The best way to keep from this infection is simple soapy water at least once a day.
