Same thing happened to me. In my case I found a little metal bracket that fell off inside the fan speed switch. I think it must be the most common problem because a small, thin and fragil plastic clip is the only thing that holds this voltage coducting bracket inside the switch. I glued it back in with Dr. Bond Super Glue, that was easy. the hard part is getting to it and putting every thing back together with out braking anything or causing a short circuit because in my case I did not disconect the battery nor the radio. In this cars; if the battery or radio are disconnected, then the anti theft system and the radio have to be reset.
Blown fuse, bad heater blower motor control switch, bad blower motor, or a bad blower motor resistor pack.
The blower resister is not supposed to be grounded. The smoke may be steam from a leaky heater core.
it sounds like your ignition switch, i ran into a similar problem, your power goes through your ignition switch for your blower motor.
A leaking heater core. oil is leaking on the engine and is burning and beining drawn in by the vent or the blower motor is going out Are you sure it's smoke or is it steam? If your windows are steaming up and it smells like maple syrup , your heater core is probably leaking.
either the control head is bad or there is a blower motor resistor that is bad.
The most common cause of the heater blower being on high only is the blower resister failing. The second most common problem is the blower switch going bad.
Blown fuse, bad heater blower motor control switch, bad blower motor, or a bad blower motor resistor pack.
The most likely cause is a bad blower motor resistor.
The most likely problem with the heater blower on your 2003 Sable is the blower resister. The resister can go bad and cause you to only have one speed.

You probably have mold in the heater vent ducting.
While there are a variety of reasons your Lexus ES350 heater is not working, the most common 3 are a broken heater blower motor, a problem with the thermostat, or a failed heater blower motor resistor.
Resistor on the heater blower motor has failed
heater core
Could be, heater blower motor has failed. blower motor fuse is burned out. blower motor speed resistor is burned out. blower motor switch is bad. or, if the blower motor works but you have no heat it could be, cooling system is low on coolant. thermostat is stuck open. heater core is plugged. temp blend door actuator is faulty.
can be the heater blower motor resistor located in either the ductwork or under hood near blower motor on firewall
