When Sir Agravane and Mordred uncover the secret affair of Sir Lancelot and Queen Guinevere, King Arthur setences Guinever to burn at the stake. Expecting Lancelot to attempt a rescue, Arthur posts guards at the execution. Sir Gawain refuses, but his brothers, Sir Gaheris and Sir Gareth, and Sir Agravane don't. As a result, Lancelot gathered many knights and did rescue the queen, (Who was returned to Camelot, still Queen), and Gawain's brothers, (Except for Mordred) are killed. Gawain's friendship for Lancelot turns to hatred, and urges Arthur to go to war with Lancelot in France. While he is gone, Mordred takes over Camelot, and the Britons must return to England. Gawain is eventually killed in the attempt, but before he dies, he writes a letter to Lancelot apologizing to him and asking him to return to help Arthur. Lancelot does, but too late. Arthur manages to kill Mordred, and is mortally wounded in the fight. He hands his crown to Constantine the Third, and is taken to the Isle of Avalon to be healed, never to be seen again.
Some also say Arthur was actually attacking Rome when Mordred ursurped the throne, but either way, the end is the same.
