A 1994 VR Commodore thermostat housing is located where the at the end of the large lower radiator hose. There will be a small housing with two screws. Be sure to drain the coolant before attempting to remove the thermostat.
I'm not exactly sure on a '94. In a '91 it's like this... You open the hood, put your right hand down and there should be a big black hose coming out of the radiator right close to it. Follow the hose to where it connects to the engine. This shold be the thermostat housing. It's usually aluminum and has two or three bolts holding it in. Kinda bulbous looking. Try that and see what you find.

Follow the top radiator hose back to the engine. There is where the t-stat housing is. Remove the hose, remove the housing, remove the old t-stat, clean gasket surfaces install the t-stat into the housing with the spring side sticking out toward the engine, use spray adhesive to attach the gasket(DO NOT USE RTV), reinstall everything and be careful to evenly tighten the housing bolts until they are snug(DO NOT RAUNCH HARD ON THE BOLTS). Fill the cooling system with a 50/50 mix of coolant and water, and burp the system.
i dont know about a diagram except if you have a chilton book on the car. but you should have a thermostat in the front housing,whear the top radiator hose meats the head,just take the tow bolts out-it should be in thear. you should also hav one on the back of the head whear the lower radiator hose meats the head.
On the 1994 Lexus 300es, the thermostat is located in the front of the engine. Look for a radiator hose just below the location of the water pump. The thermostat is inside the end of that hose.
The 1994 Chevrolet Beretta thermostat is located on the front of the engine. You can follow the top radiator hose directly to the thermostat housing. The thermostat will be in the thermostat housing.

The thermostat housing is located on the driver side between the distributor and the transmission. There are two 12mm bolts holding the the thermostat housing. You may want to disconnect the white colored sensor before removing the housing. The thermostat is located underneath the housing.
