I'm not exactly sure on a '94. In a '91 it's like this... You open the hood, put your right hand down and there should be a big black hose coming out of the radiator right close to it. Follow the hose to where it connects to the engine. This shold be the thermostat housing. It's usually aluminum and has two or three bolts holding it in. Kinda bulbous looking. Try that and see what you find.
The 2003 Subaru thermostat is located inside of the thermostat housing, on the front of the engine. The thermostat will be near the bottom of the engine.
follow the top radiator hose back to the engine. There is a plastic housing held on with three screws that should be T30 torx screws. The t-stat is under that housing.
