Good posture is important to your singing because it lets your diaphragm expand. If you are all slumped in a chair, your diaphragm can't enlarge so you barely get air and you are not as strong. Meanwhile, if you are sitting up straight, feet on the floor, hands at your side, you will be the strongest singer compared to people who slump. It is good to be able to breath and be strong.
if you dont breathe enough air in your lungs you will sing off tune, go sharp, go flat, or not have enough breath to finish the line.

Do you remember the old joke, "How do you get to Carnegie Hall?" The punchline was "Practice, practice, practice!" It's not that much different from the question raised here. The most important thing you can do to improve your singing skills is practice. Make sure you include a good warm-up before you start (singing arpeggios is a good start). Practicing three times a week for thirty minutes each is another good starting point. If at all possible, look into working with a voice coach, who can help you with other important parts of singing, like proper breathing and phrasing.

Practice, practice, practice. Begin with proper breathing. Check YouTube for a video on breathing exercises so you are singing with air, and not a pushed voice. As an alternative, you could take singing lessons at your local music store, or wherever they are offered. As well as do not sing out of your nose every one hears it and it is not good !
It's important to have your shoulders up and your back straight so as not to crunch your diaphragm. Be sure you are breathing from your diaphragm and not your chest by placing a hand on your low belly and seeing if it moves up and down. Deep breathing is the most important part.
