Fuel is much easier to ignite when it's closer to its ignition temperature (warmer days) than it is when it's colder.

Can an engine start if the timing is off?

If the timing is off by a few degrees the engine can start but will run rough. More than a few (depending on the engine) it will not start.

1999 Hyundai atoz semi auto problem cold start fast idle too high and revs even higher when you go to take off but when the car is warm its fine how do i solve the cold start problem?

Most likely it is just a dirty throttle body. After a while carbon will deposit around the throttle body butterfly valve and not allow it to close completely, a cold start usually requires very little air and more is sneaking past than the engine computer thinks there is. All this is dependent on the fact that you have good spark plugs, wires, and distributor cap and rotor ( if applicable ), and fuel lilter. When the engine is running the air/fuel is determined by detected air flow in the intake so idle will be faster than normal. When anything out of the norm happens like this it is generally a good indication that a tune up is due or past due.

1989 Dodge Colt with the 1.5 engine The car won't start when it's cold If you plug in the tank heater it will start Help?

It's the same for most cars. W/O the tank heater oil is thick so it takes more to turn the engine. When it's fairly cold gas doesn't vaporize as well, so may take more turns to start. Also, tank heater is bound to increase underhood temp and batteries are very sensitive to heat and cold. At temps lower than freezing, you'll likely save money by plugging in with a timer to kick it off a couple hours before first use. Drive away with 70 degree coolant temps, choke faster to go off, less pollution and soon to get heat out of the heater. But! all in....... you may well be ready for a new battery.

If your spark plugs are bad will your car start?

your engine will start but run badly on a multi cyl. ie. more than one only 1 plug may be down, not often more than 1 together

Vauxhall astra 1.7cdti manual will not start?

Your engine might be the source of the problem, rather than the battery. However, only a mechanic could tell you for sure.

What is an engine cold start?

It's when you start the engine when it is either really cold out, or the car has been sitting in a temperature region for a while where it has not been run and exposed to cold conditions. This is where more than 50% of engine wear comes from, the cold start because the oil has thickened and therefore does not pump through to the most crucial parts of the engine as fast. best advice is to use the manufacturer recommend oil viscosity (ex: 5w30 or 5w20) thicker oil does not help. And the use of synthetic and synthetic blend oils does help to reduce engine wear at a cold start.

Where is the cold start valve how does it work?

millisecondThe cold start valve is sometimes called the fifth injector. It is mounted to the intake air distribution box and is in line with the fuel rail. It has an electrical connection and a fuel inlet line and a fuel outlet line. S The cold start valve is essentially constructed the same as the regular fuel injectors. The main difference is that the cold start valve injection time is measured in seconds rather than in milliseconds like the regular injectors. The cold start valve receives power from the double relay when the key is in the start position but only injects fuel into the intake air distributor when the cold start valve is grounded by the thermo-time switch. The purpose of the cold start valve is to inject fuel into the intake air stream when the engine is cold (and the starter operating) in order to richen the fuel/air mixture for easier starting. It can be tested in the same manner as the other injectors. Leakage is undesirable as it will cause the engine to run rich. sorry no pics millisecondThe cold start valve is sometimes called the fifth injector. Can you jump start a motorbike with a car battery booster?

Yes you can but not with the engine running. If you do this the alternator will kick in and transfer more amps than your bike can handle. Jump start it from a cold battery without the engine running and you'll be A OK!

Why it is easier and better to wash clothes in cold water than warm water?

Cold water is cheaper and really there's no difference but it could be easier on your clothes!

Remote start won't start car on cold day.?

Alot of cars have problems starting after a really cold night. The best thing I can suggest for you is if your remote start is programmable to start automatically over night and run for 15 mins every 1 or 2 hours or so. This way the fluids in the engine are alittle warm and thin rather than being real thick from the cold.
