This is because silica-rich magma is thicker. The thicker the magma, the chance for the dissolved gas in there to escape is less likely. This causes an explosion. When the gases do escape, they cause an even bigger explosion

Why is silica rich magma associated with explosive eruptions?

silica rich magma associated with explosive eruptions because it tends to trap water and gas bubbles :)

Do silica-rich magma cause explosive eruptions?

yes

Does low silica magma cause explosive volcanic eruptions?

Not usually. Explosive eruptions are more often to magma with high or moderate silica levels.

How the composition of magma determines an eruption's characteristics?

Silica(te) rich magma is usually an explosive eruption. The explosiveness of an eruption depends on - a) Gases trapped within the magma at eruption b) The Silica content c) The fragility of the crater walls and/or the volcanic plug.

Why silica rich magma is more dangerous than iron rich magma?

The silica-rich magma, also called felsic magma, is more viscous than iron-rich or mafic magma. This means resists flow more (just as syrup is more viscous than water). The high viscosity means that the felsic magma can trap more gasses, leading to explosive eruptions, rather than effusive ones.

What magma is silica-rich thick magma?

An acid magma or a granitic magma.

What are silica rich and thick magma is what?

Silica is sand dust.

What kind of silica do strato volcanos have?

silica-rich magma

What type of magma do highly explosive volcanoes have?

Many have rhyolitic magma, which is high in silica. Magma with higher viscosity and higher gas content is the most explosive when released.

Magma that is high in silica and produces explosive eruptions?

High silica magma is light in color, thick, sticky and less dense than basalt magma. The magma that forma volcanoes is rich in silica. High silica magma have low temperatures because magma that is high in silica have the lowest temperatures. Silica rich magma builds a tall cone shaped volcano, a Stratovolcano. Magma that is high in silica resists flowing, so expanding gases are trapped in it. Pressure builds up until the gases blast out in a violent, dangerous explosion.

What type of magma produces violent reaction?

Acidic lava is very viscous, and thus will harden and block the vent. The magma will force its way out through the vent and create a violent explosion.

What is the relationship between the silica contents of magma and the explosiveness of a volcanic eruption?

The high the silica content, the explosive and the eruption.
