Here is a general list in a loose order of likely hood:

  • One of the cylinders has quit running
  • The car would not start and has been badly flooded
  • One of the injectors has failed open
  • If the car is old enough an engine mounted fuel pump could fail, these go with carburetor engines only
  • Carburetor trouble

Where is the oil pump located on 98 ford windstar?

Depending on the engine: (According to Haynes Repair Manual) 3.0L - the oil pump is located in the oil pan. You'll have to remove the oil pan, then the oil pump mounting bolt. Lower and remove the oil pump assembly (the oil pump intermediate shaft will come down with the pump). 3.8L - The oil pump is mounted in the oil pump cover/oil filter adapter. The oil pump intermediate shaft is mounted to the timing chain by a clip (I have a 3.0L, so I haven't seen this). You'll have to remove the oil filter, then the oil cooler assembly. Remove the oil pump/oil filter adapter from the front cover (inspect the oil pump gear pocket). Remove the oil pan, the pickup tube bracket nut, and two mounting bolts to remove the oil pump pickup, then lower and remove the pickup. This is probably more info than you wanted, but there you go.

Can an oil pan drain gasket cause a engine to start knocking and cause a good engine to go bad if placed on the car wrong?

It could be the cause of the knock only if the gasket was bad and leaked out almost all the oil.

Where is the transmission filter on a 2001 impala?

Usually Transmission Filters are located right inside the transmission pan all you have to do is if applicable remove drain plug and drain fluid into a pan and then unbolt and drop the pan you can not miss it. It is an aluminum panel that has a rubber seal and fits into place all you have to do is pull it right off and replace with a new one. Make sure when replacing the filter you go ahead and clean off the magnet that is sitting in the pan because it captures and collects all the little shavings floating around in the fluid. Also go ahead and clean the pan because it might have metal shaving in it to.

How do you change the oil pan gasket on 89 dodge raider and is it possible for a novice home mechanic to do this job?

If you do not mind getting your hands dirty any one can do it. Not being an American I am not familiar with this vehicle, or even heard of it. Having said that, let us start. Go to your favourite supercheapautomart, purchase gasket, replacement oil and whatever. Place car on ramps or stands on concrete surface, never even put your finger-nails under a car on a jack alone. Remove drain plug from pan and drain oil into suitable vessel. Clean pan and fixing screws with kerosine and brush, and dry. Now you can see what needs to be done. Remove screws leaving one screw in one end and finish with one at other end. Support pan with one hand and remove remaining screws with other hand. Clean everything, inside oil pan, remove every trace of old gasket from both surfaces. Carefully press the lugs of the new gasket into the relevant cut-outs in pan. Push pan into place and replace screws finger tight. Now, nip up the screws bit by bit ,one screw at one end, one at the other, then one in the middle and so on, to ensure even pressure. Replace drain plug and oil to required level. You're done, test drive around the block and then check oil level. Adjust as required

Which is better oil or gas heat?

Gas is cleaner plus you don't have to have an oil tank with gas. On the other hand you would have less of a chance of an explosion with oil. So over all I would go with a heat pump.

It circulates throughout the engine area. Unless it leaves the oil pan from the oil plug then it should go into some kinda container so you can dispose of it. Most parts store can do that for you.
