I assume that this is only for A very short time? I also assume that you are talking about A vehicle with only one belt (serpentine),, If this is correct: The likely cause is: The belt is worn out or lose, (or) the belt tensioner is bad.,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,, If this is not it, Please give more info.
is the head stock on the new starter the same as the old one if not you may want to change the head stocks
A weak battery. There is not enough voltage to hold the starter solonoid in.
It might sputter and sound like it is trying.
Ive got the same problem on the same year
If it makes a k-k-k-k-k-k sound, then it might be that the battery's dead.
Have someone test your battery with a load tester.
A clicking sound when you try to start the car is a dead battery. It may be that the alternator is not charging it properly.
is the starter staying engaged? It will make that sound once, and then when you try to start it again it starts just fine.

either your battiery is dead or your starter is going out, probably the battiery though
Car will not start, makes no sound. Battery is strong.
awful
for some. If it's worn out.
make sure battery cables are tight
Probably a dead battery but you may wish to check your battery terminals for corrosion.

sounds like a flat battery....the sound you're hearing is most likely coming from the solenoid. When getting a jumpstart leave the othercar running for about 5 minutes connected to your battery before trying to start your car.
