Overview

Vienna is both the largest and the capital of the Republic of Austria. As the country’s social, cultural, and political center, Vienna is best know as the breeding ground for famous musicians. Vienna is home to many art galleries, museums, and other historical sites. In fact, the whole downtown area is a UNESCO World Heritage Site. The city attracts many couples every year because of its romantic quality and its grandiose architectures. Although most local people speak German as their native language, most of them speak fluent English so there should not be much language barrier.

Arts and Entertainment

Visit the Museum District for a wide array of galleries and museums, including the Leopold Museum and MUMOK. Local people visit the district not only for museums but also for a leisurely drinks at one of the cafes in the area. Outside the Museum District, there are still interesting and romantic spots, such as the Museum of Fine Art and the Imperial Treasury. The Imperial Treasury displays valuable items such as jewellery and crowns. Most couples’ favorite spot is probably Hofburg Palace as the architectural style is elegant and classic. The Belvedere, the summer residence for a Vienna prince, is also one of the most romantic spots, particularly during spring and summer where the plants are blooming. For a better understanding of the history of Vienna, visit the Vienna Museum. And for couples who enjoy music, they will have a lot of fun in the newly constructed Music House which features interactive exhibits. A lot of religious buildings in Vienna are worth a visit and they are some of the best spots for lovers to take beautiful pictures. Some of the most famous ones are Karlskirche, Augustinerkirche, and the Wotruba Church. These churches and cathedrals are built in the baroque style and have a very venerable air to them. Other major tourist attractions in Vienna include the Parliament, and the Austrian National Library.

Food and Drink

Vienna is famous for its sausages and kebab. Tourists can even find them on the street food stalls and they are relatively cheap but still very tasty. To save money, the cheapest meal a tourist can get is a Vienna sandwich from one of the supermarkets. These Sandwiches are made with brown bread, ham, cheese, and gherkin. Some decent budget restaurants in Vienna include Vegetasia, Vego 7, Tunnel 8, Schnitzelwirt Schmidt, and the Highlander. For tourists who are looking restaurants that are more elegant but a bit pricier, they can go to Bio Bar von Antun for some traditional Vienna dishes, or Café Landtmann, Sigmund Freud’s favorite restaurant. Ice-cream is also one of Vienna’s staple. Go to Perizzolo and Tichy for some frozen treats with unique flavors. Vienna is also famous for its coffee houses and the city offers excellent coffee. Stop by one of the cozy cafes on the side walk and enjoy.
