How do you begin a debate?

A debate speech should have the pros and cons listed of each topic for the speech. The speech should also contain scenarios that may occur if something happens and how to combat the effects of the scenario.

You have to go through the basic steps first; which is to research.

1. Research everything you can.

- articles

- News/newspaper

- internet

- Friends/ Parents

- etc.

*It's also good to read the opposing side's article, so then you would be prepared.

2. Take notes and find many different resources.

3. Double check all of the information (make sure it's credible)

4. Pick out the main points and come up with some evidence. (min 3)

It's also good to think about the opposing team's points ---> easier to rebut.

5. Practice. Ask your friends for some advice and feedback.

**After you are done with preparing here's how you usually open up the debate**

Hello Ladies and Gentlemen, and honorable judges. We are here to debate on the motion of_____(say the debate topic. ex/ THBT uniforms should be banned)____________________. As the _______(say your position. ex/ Prime Minister), I would like to ____(say what your teammates are going to do ex/ briefly summarize what we are going to talk about then say the first point and the Depury Prime Minister will say the other two points. The Government Whip will.... etc. )___. And here are our arguments_______(Say your three arguments/ support them)

At the end say what the next person would do and say thank you and sit down

well first you need three people on each side [for and against] with a topic, e.g everyone has to join the army for min 1 yr, and the for side reaseaches why the audience should agree with them and the against side reasearches the oppisite. within the three people, there are 3 speakers, the 1st will introduce the points that the other speakers on there team is going to talk about and then say there own point. [the 1st speacker should be the shortest speach] the 3rd should rebut [prove why the other teams point is fake ] and the 2nd should say there point. after you can have judges or the audience can decide on which team is more believeable.
