shifter bushing has been worn out. should be able to repair under the car.maybe Civic Shifter Bushing Kit-Energy Susp #16-1101r
The nylon bushing at the bottom of the shifter is worn out. remove console. put shifter in the neutral position, unbolt shifter from transmission. replace bushing, then reinstall. good luck...
get a new shifter tower from a wreaker
On a manual transmission the bushing is located below the top cover of the transmission. remove the shifter boot and unbolt the 3-4 bolts that hold the shifter down.only available from your local dealer.
If you have a manual transmission, it may need a new plastic bushing at the bottom of the shifter. My 1991 Toyota pickup kept slipping out of gear due to a deteriorated plastic bushing. I picked up a new bushing at the local Toyota parts department for around $11.
Its under the cover where the shifter is..Wierd place...and hard to find. So can you tell me why my 92 cabriolet is idling way too fast?
The shifters main problem is always on the bushing. What you need to do is to loosen the bottles holding oneÊ end and the clip then remove and install the new bushing.
The Volvo 960 does not use a cable type shifter, it uses a rod style shifter linkage. It is a rod from the shifter and one from the transmission connected by a long rod. There is a bushing at each pivot point.
You probably don't need to replace the $200+ cable. Just the shifter bushing or bushing connector (or both). See the answer here: http://wiki.answers.com/Q/How_do_you_install_Shift_Cable_Bushing_for_saturn It's a $50 or less solution requiring about 15-20 minutes to effect repairs.
It is either a bad shifter bushing, or a bad shift collar. Lets hope it's the bushing, push down on the shifter ( engine off ) use a little force and push and pull on it like you are trying to shift it, but put some downward force to it as well, if the bushings are the problem it will pop out.
It sounds like the Cabriolet has a possible problem with the shifter forks. The transmission will need to be pulled apart to see what the problem is for sure.
the shifter seat and bushing need to be replaced. these are located at the bottom of the shifter and are in stock at Toyota dealers, very common itemAnswerThis is correct, my Toyota truck was popping out of 2nd and 4th, when I pulled the gear shifter out of the transmission ( with the help of a chilton's repair manual )the seat was in a hundred pieces. After replacing the seat and bushing my problem went away. AnswerI also had this issue and took it to my local mechanic after being told that I needed a new transmission by Amaco. He charged me $40.00 to replace the seat and bushing. It worked like a charm on my 91 Toyota pickup.
