Can a crack in the plaster of a gunite pool be repaired and if so how effective will the fix be?

I general, the answer is yes. It the crack comes from the pool moving, and the gunite has cracked, then the gunite has to be repaired before the plaster. Sometimes opening up the gunite crack and refilling with concrete will answer the problem. If movement of the soil is the problem then that has to be fixed first. The soil getting excessivly wet and dry can mean that the pool will move, if it is only part of the pool then there will be a structuaral crack. Only opening up the crack will tell you whether it is a plaster crack or a gunite crack. A replaster is from about $2000 up and structuaral repairs from about $1000

Should the pool construction company fix a 2 year old gunite pool that started developing cracks within the first year?

I believe the contractor should be responsible for repairs if the cracks are due to faulty workmanship such as improper soil compaction or application of gunite in cold weather etc. If the cracks were caused by a force of nature such as a flood this should be covered by homeowners insurance. In closure what was the warranty on the pool. Most reputable gunite applicators provide a warranty on the pool shell.

What is the best way to fix a floated gunite swimming pool that is twelve inches above the ground?

Don't know that it can be fixed. How do you level the pool???? The cost would be about the same as building the pool over again.

Why would there be brown algae on the bottom of a gunite pool and how do you get rid of it?

Algae spores float around in the air and can hit your pool at any time You can fix it by 1 shocking the pool and scrubbing the walls and floor of the pool if this doesn't clear it up just get an algaecide from your pool shop. When you vacuum the dead algae out of the pool it would be a good idea to vacuum it to waste to reduce the risk of reinfecting the pool.

How can I fix creaky stairs?

To fix creaky stairs, you can try tightening the screws and adding lubricant to reduce friction between the stairs and the structure. If the problem persists, you may need to reinforce the stairs or replace any damaged components.

How can I fix my pool?

The answer would be entirely dependent on the type of pool (above ground, below ground) and the material it is built from (cement, fiberglass, etc.) and the type of defect (crack, chip, hole, stains, rust, growth, etc.)

What does it cost to buy and have installed a kayak pool?

You really need to give the perimeter in order to get an idea of how much it would cost. Inground gunite pools range from 20K to the sky is the limit. The cost of building the pool is secondary the reputation of the builder and that is worth more than a discount builder. Try Bluehaven.com and get a warranty plan with your pool. Anyone with a shovel can build a pool but are they going to be around to fix any problems that come up?

How do you repair a hole near the bottom of an aluminum wall of a Poseidon above-ground oval pool?

first drain the pool, then use a tool, (we used a wet tile saw, but a chipper hammer, grinder, small jackhammer or just a hammer and chisel should do) to cut into the area of the rust source (top of the streak). You need to find the rebar tip or usually it is a piece of wire used to tie rebar together. Find this metal and either grind it out of the plaster/gunite or chip it completely out. Then just patch it back up and refill the pool.

Can gunite be added to reduce the interior depth of your pool?

A gunite pool shell IS waterproof before plastering. First, gunite/shotcrete is not water proof. The reason for the plaster is to make the pool water proof. You don't have to and should not water proof gunite because it will affect the bonding properties for the plaster. Contrary to the previous answer, Gunite is in fact "waterProof" when correctly applied. Unless there are improperly prep'd cold-joints (the point at which one application has stopped for some reason -perhaps rain, slow truck turnaround, etc- and begun at a later time), a Gunite pool could virtually be "painted", providing a high steel-trowel finish was applied to the Gunite. But, Gunite pops (begins to set and cure) faster than typically appied Marblite or Diamond Bright type cementitious finishes. Actually, the Gunite "finish" surface is purposely left fairly rouch, providing a better surface to which the finish/color material may bond.

Gunite pool and just opened it for 3rd season A noticeable and rough sandpaper-like surface formed on the sides and bottom of the pool where waterline was in winter what caused and how to fix?

Poor water chemistry. Ph and or total alkalinity were not maintained. You have calcium deposits or scale as it is sometimes called. Possibly a light acid wash at the start of the season done by a professional.

How much does it cost to fix railing on stairs?

How likely is it for the roots of trees around the pool area to actually penetrate the walls of a Gunite pool and what is the fix for it and how thick is the concrete gunite around the pool?

yoU MAY FIND YOUR ANSWER FROM A MASTER GARDENER. dIFFERANT TREES HAVE VERY DIFFERANT ROOT SYSTEMS. lISA add'l answer: Depends on how close the tree(s) are to the pool shell and the type of trees involved. I have seen a very invasive root system on 10 to 15 yr. old pools with no visual affects on the inside surface of the pool plaster. However, another concern would be what are the roots doing to the plumbing to and from the pool? A root can mangle a section of PVC pipe considerably before it cracks. On the other hand a 90 degree elbow( the weakest point would be the inside bend of the elbow - crotch) will split under pressure from the root system. This "leak" could not show up for months and if you have an automatic fill system you may not know about a leak until the pipe or fittings separate. About the fix - consult with an arborist. K Building practices change from area to area and generation to generation, but you could probably expect to find the gunite is 8" thick with potentially a 12" thick perimeter bond beam around the top of the pool wall.
