How do you replace the Driver Door window clips in a 1987 S-10?

Purchase a Haynes Manual that is for your car. It will show illistrations as to what to take off and what not.
To replace the drivers side window on a 1983 Z287 Camaro allow approximately six hours. Remove the inner door skin and remove the rivets that attach the motor to the door. Slide the window out of track and unbolt the vertical track. Unplug the harness and retrieve the assembly.

Well this one challenging project. Its easy to get it out but not its a little tricky to get back in but it can be done with a couple of hours. Well first you are going to need to remove the interior door panel to access the insides of the door. Sometimes the door has padding under the interior panel or a sheet of plastic taped around, just it off as or move so that is out of the way.

You are going to be working in a tight space and not going to able to see everything so feel around in there to where everything is. Next look for the a track where window is bolted on or what remains of your window if its busted. Unbolt the window from the track and it will take some maneuvering to get out but the window be able to move up and down and side to side freely and one the most time consuming parts.

Once you get it out you are going to have to get in the same way. This is the most time consuming part. But you have it all in and even just bolt it back up test it out before you put the panel back on and you should be good to go. At the end you may have some cuts from banging hands on the sheet metal don't this is normal.

If it's just the back clip, it's pretty easy. Roll the window down about 2-3 inches. Don't roll the window down any further than you need to in order to be able to rock the window towards the front of the truck and expose the hole in the top of the back part of the window. If you go down too far, you risk running the window off of the guide on the bottom, and then you have to take the whole door apart. Anyway, rock the window carefully out of the up and down runners and put the clip on. Use pliers that can pinch just the snap point without crushing the rest of the clip. Once it's on securely, put your hands on the inside and outside of the window and pull it back into the runner until you feel it snap in place. The one you can't see on the bottom front of the window should snap in at the same time. If you did it OK, you're done. It might be hard to pull the window back just with your hands on both sides of the window. If you can't do it that way, **carefully** roll the window down a little bit more and you can pull it back using the top of the window as a grip. Just remember that you risk the window coming out of the guide at the bottom if the window slips. Do this very carefully! The guide is only about 8 inches wide and the pulley from the motor arm will be fairly close to one end of the guide while the window is that close to the top. If it's the one on the bottom, the procedure is pretty much the same, except you have to take the door panel off to get to the clip, and snapping it on is a bit trickier since it's inside the panel and you have to work through the door cutouts. Once you have it snapped on, the procedure for popping the window back into the runners is pretty much the same. Obviously you want do do this with the window still apart in case you run it off the guide. Reseating it is trivial with the door apart. Good luck, and one other thing. GET DEALER CLIPS!!! The aftermarket ones aren't the same fit. Too big and they stick in the runners, too small and they pop out easily when the windows are stuck with snow or ice in winter. The dealer ones are cheaper anyway...

You will need to remove the door panel to gain access. You will need to remove the window/door lock panel first, and maybe the door lock slide just above that. Make sure to disconnect all electrical wiring connectors. There should be 2 or 3 screws located on the door panel that need removed (one will be behind the pull handle used to close the door from inside). The door panel will slide up, then off. Make sure you also disconnect any door light wiring harness connectors here as well. Once inside, there will be 2 retaining clips holding the glass from the bottom that slide up and down the tracks. Loosen the screws on these and slide the glass up then down and out.
