(Licenced Technician) -- 1990 Mercury Grand Marquis does not use struts. It uses coil springs with separate shocks for the front and rear - except for some of the upscale trim Grand Marquis models, which run computer-controlled air suspension in the rear. Why are you wanting the "struts" changed? Are you having handling problems? Does the car sit low on one side? I have owned a 1991 Crown Vic and a 1989 Grand Marquis; front shocks are not really difficult (for me) to change; front coil springs are much more difficult. These cars were known for sometimes breaking coil springs. Unless you have a good solid garage floor, a couple of floor jacks, a complete set of line-up bars, and access to air tools, I would not recommend doing this job yourself. Hope this helps.
Duck tape should do the trick
To replace the rear struts on a 1998 Mercury Mystique, start by safely lifting and supporting the vehicle on jack stands, then remove the rear wheels. Next, unbolt the strut from the lower control arm and the top mount, which is accessible by removing the rear seat or trunk liner. Carefully remove the old strut and install the new one, ensuring that all bolts are torqued to specification. Finally, reattach the wheels, lower the vehicle, and perform a wheel alignment if necessary.
Weak trunk struts on a 2003 VW Jetta will not allow the lid to properly stay open. To replace the struts unbolt the mounts holding them to the car and replace them.
To replace the trunk struts on your Lexus SC300, first, ensure the trunk is supported to prevent it from falling. Use a flathead screwdriver to gently pry off the retaining clips on each end of the struts. Once the clips are removed, detach the old struts from the mounting points and replace them with the new struts, ensuring they are securely attached. Finally, reattach the retaining clips to complete the installation.
To replace the rear struts on a 2001 Mercury Cougar, first, safely lift the vehicle and remove the rear wheels. Then, disconnect the lower strut bolts and upper strut mounting nuts found in the trunk. After removing the old struts, install the new struts by reversing the disassembly process, ensuring all bolts are torqued to the manufacturer's specifications. Finally, reattach the wheels and lower the vehicle.
You will need a torx adapter (I don't remember the size). After that make sure that the trunk is supported by something. Because it's very heavy, and you do not want it to fall on your head. Then replace the struts one at time. Always change the struts in pairs.

In the Mercury Mystique, the jack is typically located in the trunk of the vehicle. It is usually found beneath the floor mat or a cover, along with the spare tire. To access it, you'll need to lift the mat or remove the cover to reach the jack and any accompanying tools.
To change the rear struts on a 2001 Mercury Cougar, first, safely lift and support the vehicle on jack stands. Remove the rear wheels, then unbolt the lower strut mount and detach the upper strut mount inside the trunk. Replace the old struts with new ones, ensuring they are securely fastened, then reassemble the components in reverse order. Finally, reinstall the wheels, lower the car, and perform a test drive to check for proper installation.

To change the trunk struts on a 2008 Dodge Avenger, start by opening the trunk and supporting it with a prop to prevent it from closing unexpectedly. Use a flat-head screwdriver to pry off the retaining clips on both ends of the struts, then remove the old struts by pulling them off the ball joints. Attach the new struts by pushing them onto the ball joints and securing them with the retaining clips. Finally, test the trunk to ensure it opens and closes smoothly.
