How do you take the steering wheel off of a 1999 sunfire?

# Disconnect the negative battery cable. # Remove the pad assembly by either removing the screws or prying the pad off. Disconnect the bayonet-type connector at the horn wire by pushing in and turning counterclockwise. # Push the locking lever counterclockwise until the full release position is obtained. # Scribe a mark on the plate assembly where the two attaching screws attach the plate assembly to the locking lever. Remove the two screws. # Unscrew the plate assembly and remove. # Remove the steering wheel nut retainer and nut. Using a puller, remove the wheel.

Warning:These models have airbags.Always turn the steering wheel to the straight ahead position,place the ignition switch in the lock position,remove the the air bag fuse and unplug the yellow connector position assurance connectors at the base of the steering column and under the right side of the instrument panel before working in the vicinity of the impact sensors

Caution:On models equipped with Delco-Loc 2 or Theftlock audio systems make sure you have activation code

• Disconnect the neagtive battery cable
• Disable the airbag system
• Remove the airbag module retaining screws
• Remove the airbag module and unplug the electrical connectors.Carry the airbag module with the trim side facing away from you.Set the airbag module in an isolated area with the trim facing up
• Remove the steering wheel retaining nut
• The steering wheel and the steering shaft should already be marked.if they;re not mark their relationship to one another before removing the steering wheel
• Remove the steering wheel with a puller
