No, and if you are a U.S. citizen, the Magnussen-Moss Warranty Act (1975) states that consumers are not required to use OEM branded parts in their vehicles, and use of any aftermarket part does not automatically void the factory warranty, unless the part can be proven to cause the failure.
For example, if you used a FlimFlamFlow air filter and your windows stop working, Subaru can not deny the warranty claim to repair your windows. However, if the engine seized and parts of the FFF filter were found in the cylinders, Subaru has every right to deny the warranty claim to repair the engine.
If you are not in the United States, the laws may be different.

That depends on the brand of filters that your auto parts store carries. While you are there checking out the brands they also have filter cross references that will tell you which filters that they carry will fit your Subaru.
Fuel Filters, Air Filters, bad spark plugs, and stretched belts can all lead to a loss of power. Do the filters first and see if that helps.
Just make sure that you do not use cheap filters. Always use filters as good as OEM filters at least. Don't use FRAM.
My 2000 Forester has at least two air filters. One filters engine air and one filters cabin air. Look in your owners manual for location of either or drop another line here with a more specific request.
You do not have to use OEM filters. You should however use a quality filter. Purolator, Wix, Bosch, AC/Delco, Motorcraft, Mopar, and all OEM filters are quality filters. Avoid cheap no name filters.
The 1999 Subaru Forester air filter is located in the engine compartment inside of the air box. There is also a cabin filter located behind the glove box.
Of course! Check with NAPA Auto Parts, and use the term 'after-market'...
The best water filters for house use are typically reverse osmosis filters, carbon filters, and UV filters. These filters can effectively remove contaminants and impurities from tap water, providing clean and safe drinking water for your household.
Filters screen debris out of whatever system they are cleaning.
Yes, but I would not recommend a Fram filter. I recommend Purolator, Wix, or Bosch filters. Anyplace that sells filters will be able to tell you the correct application.
Mopar filters from the Dodge dealer.
