You do not have to use OEM filters. You should however use a quality filter. Purolator, Wix, Bosch, AC/Delco, Motorcraft, Mopar, and all OEM filters are quality filters. Avoid cheap no name filters.
Just make sure that you do not use cheap filters. Always use filters as good as OEM filters at least. Don't use FRAM.
That's the OEM recommended oil...
Wrong oil filter. Must use OEM oil filter in Mini's. The aftermarket filters dont have the proper check valve inside.

Yes, you can cross reference the filters. Most auto-parts stores will have the cross reference guide. You can also find a cross reference guide on the auto-parts stores website.
By using the manufacturers servicing schedule and manufacturers recommended oil filters and parts.
You should be using Mobil 1 in your engine. With that, about 10,000 miles should be fine. And make sure to replace the oil filter as well...use OEM filters. From my experience, after market filters are no where close to OEM. If you're not using Mobil 1, 3000 miles is recommended. Also, depending on your mileage...you should check the other fluids, such as: Power Steering, brake fluid...check the color...if it's not clear, its time to flush the system. Also, most importantly, check the last time your trans was serviced. If its more than 40,000, change the oil and filter...this is considerably less mileage than MB suggests, but these new transmissions will last a lot longer with 40k services. Check the rear end fluid and if the fuel filter has more than 40k on it, change it.
There are none that are recommended by OEM of cars and unless you are having issues with some part of the engine that is related to oil systems then you should not use any. But if you must, USE SLICK 50

OEM is 5W30 recommended, however, it is really up to where your geographic location is. I used to live in Denver, CO and the dealerships there recommend something lighter due to weather conditions during the winter. If you live in an area where it is reasonably no extreme weather variations, then the OEM weight should be just fine.
An oil filter is an integral part of any motor vehicle engine. Oil filters work to remove any contaminants and sediment from the engine oil in a vehicle which is extremely important for engine efficiency. Oil filters should be replaced every 3000 miles or so in order for the oil in your engine to perform its job of lubricating the engine.
