I have changed 2 blower motors and one fan relay in my 96 s-10 in 230,000 mi.
This model has a common failure with the fan motor connector. Check wjjeeps.com for pictures and a home made solution.

Remove the wiring harness from the back of your 1996 Chevrolet blower motor. Remove the blower motor retaining bolts. Remove the fan from the blower motor. Reverse the process to install your new blower motor.
Check the coolant in the 96 Taurus. Check to insure that the thermostat is working properly, and that the water pump is working.
try wiggling the wires at the blower resistor if don't work then tap on blower motor

It is in an auxiliary relay box directly beneath the air filter hose. The blower motor relay is the large one second from the left as you look down from the right fender.
