It sounds as if you either don't have a wiring harness attached to your vehicle, or else you will need to get an adapter. All the plugs and sockets are different, depending on who made it, and how many connectors each one has.
The trailer lighting connector is located behind the left side panel in the cargo area. If you use a converter, you can get the connector and pins that mate with the connector in your vehicle from a dealer. Since lighting and wiring vary with trailer type and brand, you should also have a qualified technician install a suitable connector between the vehicle and the trailer. See related link below.

The plug on the bumper of a 2008 GMC Sierra is typically a trailer wiring harness connector, which allows you to connect a trailer's electrical system to your vehicle. To use it, simply remove the protective cover from the plug, align the connector from your trailer's wiring harness with the plug, and push it in until it clicks securely. This connection enables the trailer's brake lights, turn signals, and running lights to function properly while towing. Always ensure that the vehicle's electrical system is compatible with the trailer's requirements before use.
Glad hands are coupling devices used to connect the air brake lines between a truck and a trailer. They consist of two parts: a male and a female connector, which securely lock together to ensure a tight seal that allows for the transmission of compressed air for the trailer's braking system. Proper connection of glad hands is essential for safe operation, as any leaks can lead to brake failure. They are typically color-coded, with the red connector for the trailer's emergency brakes and the blue for the service brakes.
