To change the oil filter on a 2005 Mazda 3, first ensure the engine is cool and the vehicle is on a level surface. Remove the engine cover if necessary, then use an oil filter wrench to unscrew the old oil filter, allowing any oil to drain into a pan. Before installing the new filter, apply a bit of clean oil to the rubber gasket on the new filter, then screw it on by hand until snug. Finally, refill the engine with the appropriate oil and check for leaks.
2005 Mazda 6s, ( V6, 3.0) takes 6 US quarts if you change the oil filter..5.5 quarts if you don't change the filter. Recommended oil is SAE 5W20. The four cylinder (2.5 liter engine) takes 4.5 us quarts if you change the filter and 4.1 us quarts if you don't change the oil filter. They both use the same viscosity of oil because of the vast temperature range of the 5W20 grade oil.
