I think you will find the hazing you are seeing is actually on the outside of the lens. Use a good cutting polish or glass cleaner and it will lift it!

To replace the thermostat in a Subaru Forester, first ensure the engine is cool and disconnect the negative battery terminal. Drain the coolant, then remove the upper radiator hose and the thermostat housing, which is typically secured by bolts. Take out the old thermostat, clean the mating surfaces, and install the new thermostat with a new gasket. Reassemble the housing and hose, refill the coolant, and check for leaks before reconnecting the battery.

To check the transmission fluid in a 2014 Subaru Forester, first ensure the vehicle is on a level surface and the engine is running at normal operating temperature. With the engine running, locate the transmission dipstick, typically found near the back of the engine bay. Pull the dipstick out, wipe it clean, reinsert it, and then remove it again to check the fluid level; it should be within the marked range. If necessary, add the appropriate type of transmission fluid as specified in the owner's manual.

If you mean cleaning up a dogs waste, you can either pick up the waste with a garden shovel or by turning a plastic bag inside-out and use the bag as a glove. Pick up the waste then turn the bag back the right way. The waste is then inside the plastic bag.
After you have removed the two metal clips behind the glove box, removed the cover and rubber gasket as well as the two part filter(2001 Forester) you can pass a long pipe cleaner through the drain into and through the rubber hose. The drain hole is at the front end of the plastic filter housing at it's base. If the pipe cleaner is long enough( a child's fluorescent model that they use for construction projects is long ) it will appear at the end of the hose where it exits near the base of the firewall. The hardest part is probing for the opening at the base of the plastic housing since you can't see it unless you have a fiber optic device. Borrow your doctor's colonoscope and you've got it made. Good Luck!
You unseal the glass from the plastic bezel it has an adesive wich keeps the two parts toghether, after you clean the glass you use a new adesive to seal the two parts back toghether.
