In the 1980 Nissan 280ZX, the lower speedometer cable is located on the driver's side of the passenger compartment, typically near the base of the dashboard. It connects to the speedometer head, which is mounted in the instrument cluster. To access it, you may need to remove the lower dash panel or trim pieces to reach the cable connection.
pull the dash apart. behind the speedometer you will see the cable. it connects to the transmission.

I have the same problem. Did you resove it? I suspect it is a charging issue. Maybe a poor connection somewhere.
To replace the starter on an 1983 280ZX, first disconnect the negative battery terminal to ensure safety. Then, remove any components obstructing access to the starter, such as the air intake or exhaust heat shield. Unbolt the starter from its mounting location, disconnect the wiring harness, and then replace it with the new starter by reversing the removal steps. Finally, reconnect the battery and test the new starter to ensure it functions properly.
To remove the radio from a Datsun 280ZX, first disconnect the car battery to avoid any electrical issues. Next, pry off the trim panel surrounding the radio using a trim removal tool or a flathead screwdriver carefully to avoid damage. Once the trim is removed, unscrew the radio mounting screws, then gently pull the radio out from the dashboard. Finally, disconnect the wiring harness and antenna cable from the back of the radio.
9tCarefully disconnect the speedo cable under the dash where it come thru the firewall and see if the end that is connected to the back of the speedo is abnormally loose. Mine was and caused a similar problem, I tightened it and problem went away for almost a year but it came loose again so I just replaced the speedo. Just as a side note, if you had any tranny work it could be an incorrect speedometer gear in the transmission if you replaced the trans that is.
have a lift handy to lift the car. disconnect the driveshaft. then the axles, wires, sensors etc. unbolt everything then pull it out. u will probably want to drain the dif 1st
