To remove the AC vent in a Mazda 3, start by using a trim removal tool to carefully pry off the trim surrounding the vent. You have to pull the radio trim, instrument cluster trim & top center heat/ac vent. After these are out you can remove the 3- 7mm screws from the back holding the switch in.

To remove the shift knob on a '95 Mazda MX-3 just twist the knob itself counter clockwise until it comes off!
1. Open the ash tray and remove the felt lined insert, behind it is a bolt you need to remove. 2. With that bolt removed you can pop out the ash tray/climate control unit, and you will be able to see the two bottom bolts for the radio. 3. Above the radio you will need to pop out the ac vent, it isn't screwed in so you just have to pull on it and it will pop out. With the vent removed you will see the top two bolts for the radio. 4. Remove the 4 bolts and the radio will slide out.
To remove the radio. 1. remove the ashtray, and 2 corner vent diffusers. There are bolts to remove in ashtray area and inside Left/right most vents. 2. remover the rubber steering wheel trim ring. then remove the whole vent diffuser assembley. 3. remove the 4 screws at the top of the instrument cluster. and the 4-5 at the bottom. (covered up by the vent piece).
1. remove the radio bezel , unplug plug 2. remove radio , unplug plugs 3. remove left and right vent ducts 4. remove center vent duct 5. remove actuator three 8mm screws , remove plug 6. installation is reverse
