BOTH LEADS MUST BE REMOVED FROM THE BATTERY WHEN CONNECTED TOGETHER!

To reset the ECU of a 2000 Dodge Neon, disconnect the negative battery terminal and leave it disconnected for about 15 minutes. This allows the system to reset and clears any stored error codes. Afterward, reconnect the negative terminal and start the car, allowing the ECU to relearn its parameters during normal driving conditions. Make sure to check for any persistent issues that may have triggered the need for a reset.

The Check Engine Light comes on when the ECU has detected a problem with the emissions system. Have the ECU scanned with an OBD2 scanner to retrieve the code that has been set. That code will tell you where to start looking for the problem. Once the problem is repaired you will need an OBD2 scan tool to reset the light.
