First fix whatever the problem is. That alone oughta turn the light off. Otherwise, either disconnect the battery for a minute or so, or remove the 15A EFI fuse #12 in the engine compartment fuse box for a minute or so.

With a scan tool or by unhooking the battery.
There are pages and pages of things that can cause a check engine light. You need to have it checked with a scantool. Then the code can be diagnosed and repaired.
Change the oil.
The only way to reset the sensor light on a 1985 Nissan pickup truck is to disconnect the sensor wiring. After 60 seconds, put the wiring back in place.
To reset the timing on a 1985 Oldsmobile 98, start by ensuring the engine is at operating temperature and turn it off. Disconnect the timing connector (usually a single wire) to set the timing to base specifications, then start the engine and use a timing light to check the timing mark on the crankshaft pulley against the timing tab. Adjust the distributor by loosening the hold-down bolt and turning it until the timing light shows the correct timing specification, typically around 6-10 degrees BTDC. Finally, reconnect the timing connector and ensure all components are secure before testing the engine.
That is the same as the check engine light. You will need to have the system checked for codes to know possible causes.
There are hundreds of different codes that can cause the check engine light to come on. It needs to have a code reader hooked up to find out the specific code. Most auto parts stores will do this for free.
Check at the battery with a volt meter, Should have over 14 volts when engine is running. If not, possibly have to replace the alt. or check all the wires.
a plug misfiring would cause the rough idle and check engine light or if u changed the plugs and wires u could have put the plug wires in the wrong order
To turn off the engine light on a 1985 BMW 528e, you can start by checking for any trouble codes using a diagnostic tool or by jumping the diagnostic connector. If you identify and fix the underlying issue, the light should turn off automatically after a few driving cycles. Additionally, you can disconnect the battery for a few minutes to reset the system, but this won't address any underlying problems. Always ensure that any issues are resolved to prevent the light from reappearing.
To pull diagnostic codes from a 1985 BMW 528e, you need to locate the diagnostic connector, typically found under the driver's side dashboard. Use a jumper wire to connect pins 1 and 2 on this connector. Once connected, turn the ignition key to the "on" position without starting the engine, and the check engine light will blink to indicate the trouble codes. Count the blinks to determine the specific codes, which you can then reference in a repair manual or online resources for further diagnosis.
