To tighten the AC belt on a Mitsubishi 3000GT, first, locate the tensioner pulley. Use a socket or wrench to loosen the tensioner bolt, then adjust the tensioner to apply more tension to the belt. Once the desired tension is achieved, tighten the tensioner bolt securely. Finally, check the belt's tension to ensure it's not too tight or too loose.
If the squeeling is under the hood it is probably the AC belt. If the defroster is on the AC is on. Just tighten the belt. If the squeeling is under the hood it is probably the AC belt. If the defroster is on the AC is on. Just tighten the belt.

The AC pump is bad. When the AC is turned on the pump tries to turn, because it is bad the extra strain on the motor causes it to stall. Be carely this can break or through a belt. In short its like putting a "brake" on your motor.
It has a serpentine belt with a built in tensioner. You can't tighten it. If it is loose, it needs replacing or the idler pulley is defective, or both.
3000 miles
The alternator will move in and out to tighten the belt and the PS pump will do the same
You loosen (1/2 turn) the 15mm nut that locks the idler pulley. Then from under neath you turn the 13mm bolt that will tighten and loosen the belt. Be sure to tighten the lock nut when done.
Replacing the AC belt is probably one of the easiest things to do... Just simply losen the tensioner pulley and remove belt... Install new belt on all the pulleys then tighten the tensioner pulley. Its that easy.
Loosen the tensioner pulley. When the tensioner pulley is loose the belt will come off. Put the new belt on and tighten the tensioner pulley.
