I just had this on my 98 Sentra last week. I checked all grounds and found no notable problems. I did notice that the lights would also go dim along with air bag light and speedometer during this problem, Had parts store check alternator which came out good at normal 2K RPM. Ran 2nd test at 2.9K to 3K RPM (raised RPM until dome light dimmed) which showed current dropped to almost zero. Changed alternator with new one and is now working great.

Several factors could be draining a new battery and alternator, such as faulty wiring, a parasitic drain from an electrical component, a malfunctioning charging system, or an underlying issue with the vehicle's electrical system. It is recommended to have the electrical system thoroughly inspected by a professional mechanic to pinpoint the exact cause of the issue.

What is wrong with the battery if it wont stay charged with a new alternator on a Chrysler 5Th avenue?

Your alternator is probably rebuilt and not really new. I have had this problem several times and I have bought a new battery and alternator. The alternator keeps your battery charged and powers your electrical system, so even when driving you can lose all power in the car from the alternator draining your battery. Take the battery and alternator to an auto store and they will test both for free. Ask them about the difference in a rebuilt alternator and a brand new one. This is a very common problem.

Why does an alternator smoke?

An alternator may smoke due to several reasons, primarily overheating caused by excessive electrical load or a short circuit. Worn bearings or internal components can also create friction, leading to overheating and smoke. Additionally, a faulty voltage regulator can cause overcharging, resulting in insulation breakdown and smoke. If an alternator is smoking, it is crucial to address the issue immediately to prevent further damage.

How do you replace the electrical plug connector on a 2006 ford focus?

Hello. I just replace the alternator on our 2001 Focus with 70K on the odometer. The job took about an hour. However, before you replace yours, check the continuity through the electrical plug connection at the alternator. This is a weak point of the Focus and can cause the alternator to not charge the battery properly. If the plug checks good, you must replace the entire alternator (as of 12-20-06, the part costs about $165 for a rebuilt unit in South Carolina). Here are the steps: Remove the positive battery cable. Unplug the wires from the alternator and slide them from the plastic support bracket. Connect a short extension onto a 3/8" ratchet and slide the end of the extension into the square hole on the belt tensioner. Rotate the ratchet handle so as to remove the tension from the belt. Slip the belt from the alternator only. Remove the two bolts from the front of the alternator and one nut from the underside of the alternator. Hint- To ease removal of the alternator, remove the electric fan housing from its mount by pushing on the two top tabs with your fingers. Lift up on the fan housing and slide it out of its lower supports. The housing can then be moved several inches out of the way to allow the alternator to be easily removed. Install the new alternator in the reverse order.
