The towing capacity according to the owners manual is 300 pounds on the tongue and 3500 pounds distributed with a trailer. I own a 1995 Pathfinder, and I agree with that. The underpowered 3L V6 engine can't take much wear and tear for it goes really slow with a trailer. We often tow three 500 pound ATVs and a 1300 pound trailer, and that is plenty for it to handle. Speeds greater than 70 are often sketchy, but we do fine anyways. We don't use a trailer that has brakes on it, though it is much easier slowing down and could prevent an accident down the road. The V6 can handle loads under 3000 pounds just fine on the freeway and in the middle of no where just as long as there are little increases in elevation. Driving from Salt Lake City, UT to St. George Utah is quite the climb, and the poor pathfinder shows it's weaknesses up the large hills. Overall, I would say that towing heavy things close to home is just fine though. The long road trips are the ones to look out for!

I have a 1995 Nissan pathfinder and the alarm computer was under the driver seat. I just took out the seat and unplugged the alarm computer. Not sure if it's the same on a 1994 Nissan pathfinder.
