The Engine Control Module (ECM) on a 2005 Toyota Corolla Matrix is located in the engine compartment. Specifically, it can be found on the driver's side, near the firewall, typically mounted against the side of the vehicle. It's often housed in a protective casing and may require removing some covers to access it.

Between the back wheels under the fuel tank
The ECM, electrical control module, for the 2008 is located under the windshield cowl. This is problematic as all the rain drains directly onto the unit causing rust and malfunctions.
The 2006 Toyota Corolla has 16 valves.
The ECM on a 2003 Corolla is located directly under the center of the glove compartment. You can see the ECM if you lay on your back looking upward in the front passenger area. If you remove the one screw on the right side of the glove box (when it is open) you can lift out the glove box and will be looking down on the ECM. By the way, this is all you need to do to access and change the cabin filter. There are two round black plastic fasteners that hold a front cover over the plugs that go into the ECM. These fasteners are removed by gently prying them downward with a screwdriver. The fasteners don't have a "snap", rather they are plastic bolts with concentric indentations rather than a spiral (screw) pattern.
The 2006 Toyota Corolla is a gas-powered vehicle.
