Applying the parking break works for me.
They are different gear ratios. Outback turns 3100 @ 65 while the Forester turns about 2700. I'm currently running this combo and have about 4-5k on it expecting viscous coupling to go when I need it the least, then I go nowhere and I'm on as unmaintained road in the Colorado Rocky's so I'm looking for the correct answer as well.
I'm still trying to figure it out on my 97. Does at random for about 1 to 5 mins at a time.Will update when I figure it out. The net so far is of no help!
It has something to do with the immobilizer & keyless entry system programming. Take your car to the dealer. He will have to use a special scanner and laptop PC to program.
The quick easy method for determining a bad alternator or at least to find out if it is charging, while the car IS running remove the negative battery cable from the battery, if the car stalls then you need to have the alternator service inspected.
Just a guess... but the constant velocity joint maintains appropriate speed on the wheel while in a turn.
