Try using sea foam engine cleaner before engine oil change and change oil to mobil 1 0W30 oil. The problem should go away with 0w30 oil due to it high detergent value, this should clean out the valve/lifter ports which may be plugged up. this is a common problem with the Honda 3.2L engine due to tight mfg. specs and small oil passages at the lifters. I had the ticking noise on my 1994 Honda Passport and switching to mobil 0w30 oil took care of the problem. Continue with 3-4K oil changes.
It is more than likely the lifters. Lifters begin to loose some of their ability to hold oil pressure and you get a slight ticking sound, it usually is louder at start up. It is nothign to worry about. As long as you are not hearing a pinging or knocking....those are sounds you need to address quickly
No
Yes , the 3.2 liter V6 engine in a 1997 Honda Passport ( IS an interference engine )
Possibly the lifters?!?
its not really a good idea to try to cover up the noise....any car after around 1980 really needs to have the oil it calls for....if your lifter drops your screwed....i would consider getting it fixed.
An interference engine ( according to the Gates website the 3.2 liter V6 in a 2001 Honda Passport is an interference engine )
It depends on what type of engine and transmission the Passport has.
The whole car was made by Isuzu, including the engine.
No this V6 is not an interference engine. However the cam belt should be replaced at 75,000 miles. Reason being is that the 1998 Honda Passport is nothing more than a rebadged Isuzu Rodeo, and was not built by Honda and does not have a Honda engine. It has an Izuzu engine.
The thermostat is located in the housing on the engine side of the upper radiator hose on a Honda Passport 3.2 engine. You will have to take the air filter tubing off to get to it.

if ticking noise is in engine, u most likely have a worn hydraulic lifter. check oil for correct volume and viscocity
