Windshield wipers are often left in the upright position during severe weather, such as snow or ice, to prevent them from freezing to the windshield. This position allows for better visibility and easier clearing of snow and ice accumulation. Additionally, it helps protect the wiper blades from damage and ensures they are not obstructed when the vehicle is parked.

Make sure to do this with the arms in the upright position for easier access.
