The outer planets are much larger than the inner planets and are made mostly of hydrogen, helium and ice. They rotate faster than the inner planets, more than once each Earth Day. The inner planets are made mostly of iron and rock, and rotate slower.

The outer planets are larger, heavier and have more gas in their atmosphere than Earth or Mars which are "rocky" planets along with Mercury and Venus. The outer planets have many moons while the inner planets have few (Mars 2, the Earth 1, neither Venus nor Mercury have any).

The three outer planets are: Saturn, Uranus, and Neptune.

Saturn is a gas giant, with the famous rings around it. It is the second-largest planet in our solar system, after Jupiter, and one of the two gas giants.

Uranus is an icy planet, with unusual vertical rings around it. It's theorized that the rings are vertical because at some point the planet was hit by an asteroid or other space rock thing. It is much smaller than Saturn, but still the third-largest planet.

Neptune is also an icy planet, without rings. Neptune is smaller than Uranus, but larger than Earth, so is the fourth-largest planet. Neptune actually has very notable weather patterns, picked up by probes.

Pluto, for a long time considered the ninth planet and fourth outer, is no longer considered one of our main planets at all. *sob*

The Outer Planets are all different sizes and rotate differently. For example, Uranus rotates on its side.
