The cause is the same as in North America and Europe, but New Zealand has

winter when the Northern Hemisphere has summer.

The Earth's tilt combined with its orbital motion means the Northern Hemisphere

is tilted towards the Sun when the Southern Hemisphere is tilted away from the Sun.

One thing you need to remember is that the tilt always faces the same direction. In other words, it would be like you drawing a dot on a piece of paper, and then a circle around that dot.

Next, take a pen and put it down on the circle, with the pen leaning towards you. You'd notice that the top part of the pen is further away from the dot than the bottom part right? Now start moving the pen around the dot on the circle, but keep the pen tilted towards you at all times. What will happen is that once you reach the spot opposite you on the circle is that the top part of the pen would not be closer to the dot than the bottom part.

On each side of the circle (your left and right) both the top and bottom part of the pen would be equally far away from the dot.

So since the Earth's tilt is in the same direction always, with the Earth rotating on it's own axis while also orbiting the Sun, it would simply mean that during certain times of the year the Southern hemisphere would be closer to the Sun (summer) than the Northern hemisphere (winter) while during the rest of the year it would be further away (winter) while the Northern hemisphere would be closer (summer)

The "in between" stages are when you experience fall and spring.

If you live in the northern hemisphere, summertime is when the earth is tilting closer to the sun. Winter is when the earth is tilting farther away. It the opposite if you're living in the southern hemisphere.

also consider nature of earth as gyroscope , being that axis remains parallel round full orbit
