Lunar rays are bright bands of material thrown out very large distances from impact craters on the Moon. They are also seen on other planets, notably Mercury. They are thought to represent ejected material with a high level of iron oxide and similar materials.

How does a solar eclipse compare to a lunar?

A lunar eclipse occurs when the Moon passes behind the Earth so that the Earth blocks the Sun's rays from striking the Moon and a solar eclipse occurs when the Moon passes between the Sun and the Earth, and the Moon fully or partially blocks the Sun. This is a Solar: And this a Lunar:

How does the moon get different shapes?

the sun rays always reaching to the moon. when the earth block the sun rays from reaching the moon, the lunar eclipse can be formed. But the moon revolves round the earth, the blocks are removing from the moon. so the moon got different shapes.

Why does a lunar eclipse have to occur during a full moon?

Because - a lunar eclipse is when Earth blocks the sun's rays from hitting the moon. This can only happen when the sun, Earth and the moon are nearly perfectly aligned (meaning when Earth comes between the sun and moon - which is when we have a full moon.)

What position does a lunar eclipse happen and why?

A lunar eclipse takes place when the sun and earth are aligned. The shadow casted from the earth when the sun's rays are direct with half of it then cover he entire moon. The thicker part of the shadow is called the umbra. The umbra is where the moon is covered completely. The penumbras are the thiner parts of the shadow spanning out larger than the moon. Ex: 0<- Sun-------->(rays) 0<-Earth------->(umbra) o<-moon
