The crew spent 21 days in quarantine to make sure they didn't carry back any germs that might be harmful to earthlings. The crew was released from quarantine on August 10. 3 days later, the astronauts were honored with parades in New York, Chicago and Los Angeles. After their quarantine, they embarked on a 45 day goodwill trip to 25 countries. On Spetember 16, 1969, the 3 astronauts spoke before a joint session of congress where they presented 2 flags that were flown to the lunar surface, one for the House and one for the Senate.

None of the 3 Apollo 11 astronaust ever flew into space following their Apollo 11 flight. Collins was offered command of Apollo 17, but turned it down the opportunity to return to the moon and walk on it.

Armstrong resigned from NASA in 1971 to begin a teaching career at the University of Cincinnatti.

Aldrin resigned from NASA in March, 1972 to accept a position as the Commandant of the US Air Force Test Pilot School at Edwards Air Force Base. He has authored several books since leaving NASA.

Collins retired from NASA in 1970 to take a job in teh Department of State as Assistant Secretary of State for Public Affairs. A year later, he became the first director of the National Air and Space Museum. Collins also authored several books after leaving NASA. Unlike other astronauts, Collins did not use a ghost writer.
