It is a Solar Eclipse.

It the point/trail of the Solar Eclipse on the Earth, the Sunlight is completely blocked out and everything appear to go to night.

Nature . birds, animals etc., attempt to go to sleep. Plants stop producing oxygen and absorbing carbon dioxide, because they need UV light for this process.

At any one spot on the Earth, totality of the Solar Eclipse can last for several minutes.

Immediately prior to and immediately after (diamond ring effect) light starts to come back. However, at a 90% partial solar eclipse the light is very low, and it feels 'weird'. The power of the Sunlight has virtually gone at this stage.

The next total solar eclipse will be on the 8th April 2024, and will track from the Pacific Ocean, into Mexico, then Texas, Arkansas, Illinois, Kentucky, Indiana, Ohio, New York(state), Maine, the Canada)Souther Ontario). into the Atlantic Ocean. There will be a wide region to either side of the track of totality where a partial eclipse will be seen.

There are three types of Solar Eclipse, depending on the closeness of the Moon, to the Earth, (it does vary), they are , Total, Annular, and Coronal.

Total ; Sun is completely blocked out

Annular ; A ring of Sun(light) is seen round the Moon

Coronal ; The Sun's corona is only seen.

Have a look on Wikipedia under Solar Eclipse.

Earth blocking sunlight reaching the moon?

The moon is only big enough to block sunlight from a small spot on the Earth ... never more than about 170 miles across. On the rare occasion when that happens, the event is called a "solar eclipse".An eclipse occurs when the Moon blocks sunlight from reaching Earth. The same is true when the opposite occurs.
