Pluto, named after the lord of the underworld- was reclassified as a (Kuiper-belt planetoid) a few years back, most people still call it a planet. time will tell. By the way Dante (not an astronomer) Theorized there were Nine Heavens (galaxies?) and get this Nine levels of Hell. (and the very bottom of Hell is---Ice!) Pluto is the farthest from the sun, right. actually he knew Earth was third planet from sol, and assumed a geometrical progression 3 squared is nine, right. Right he was! a Helluva good guesstimate! Maybe someday they can rename it planet Manson-Stalin, oh two devils who played Poker but that:s another morbid hoke.

It's quite complicated now, with new definition. There are 3 things required to be classed as a planet in our Solar System :

1) The object must orbit the Sun.

2) It must be (more or less) spherical.

3) It must be the dominant object in its neighbourhood.

According to the International Astronomical Union's definition (a definition which is still widely argued by both scientists and non-scientists), a planet:

1. Has been crushed by gravity into a spherical shape,

2. Orbits a star

3. Has cleared the area of its orbit of other matter and debris
