You can plug your iPod to the factory BMW radio using the iPod interface for your vehicle , this will plug into the CD hcanger connection,
the 3 pin and 6 pin plug will work for iPod , you have to remove the CD changer
full iPod controls from the BMW radio, it will display all the iPod text on the radio and cluster do a search on Yahoo for ( dice i-BMW-t/5v )
You need to go to the BMW dealership and buy a USB adapter. This adapter has a USB and AUX input and a ipod adapter. This way you can control the ipod from your stereo and from the wheel.

In newer BMW cars and iPod auxiliary hookup comes standard, i believe they started this in 2004. If the model is older than 2004, you can purchase an iPod transmitter that will work with a BMW, or any other car for that matter.
